Set against the iconic backdrop of Oregon’s Dundee Hills, White Walnut Estate is a singular project that captures the spirit of heritage, craftsmanship, and regenerative land stewardship. This estate is more than a tasting room—it is the heart of a biodynamic vineyard, born from vision, resilience, and respect for the land.

A design-build project, O’Brien partnered with vineyard owner and winemaker Chris Mazepink to bring this exceptional estate to life. Once a forgotten walnut orchard overtaken by bramble, the property was painstakingly restored by Chris and his sons in 2014. Their hands-on efforts cleared the land for vines of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, which now flourish alongside 70-year-old walnut trees that were carefully preserved during the sitework. Today, the 6.3-acre certified organic and biodynamic vineyard yields fruit renowned for its vibrancy, complexity, and vitality.

Our team was entrusted with building a tasting room that would reflect the soul of the land and the elegance of the surrounding wine country. The building was thoughtfully designed to integrate timeless Northwest architectural elements—vaulted ceilings, native stone, and expansive windows—with modern sensibility and energy efficiency. Every detail, from material selection to landscaping, was approached with an eye toward harmony with the vineyard and surrounding views. Sustainability and quality were guiding principles throughout the build. Spacious layouts and natural finishes were paired with durable systems designed to ensure the tasting room’s comfort and longevity. Mature landscaping, including the historic walnut trees and new plantings, enhances the estate’s connection to the land and reinforces the property’s legacy as a cultivated refuge.
