Seaside Police Station Seismic Rehabilitation
Seaside’s circa 1967 Police Station was originally housed in a two-story wood frame and single-story unreinforced masonry structure.
Upon an ASCE 41-17 seismic evaluation, the building emerged as a high-risk category and was awarded a Seismic Rehabilitation Grant from the State of Oregon. As CM/GC, O’Brien’s team collaborated with the Seaside Police Department and WRK Engineers on roof replacement, shear wall reinforcement, and bracing for the existing public safety complex.
This $1.28 million project’s goal was to improve public safety by renovating the Seaside Police Station to withstand an earthquake during a Cascadia Subduction Zone seismic event.
In order to maintain Seaside’s Fire and Police Departments’ operations as they continued to occupy the facility and work throughout the retrofit process, O’Brien created phased spaces for temporary relocations, including moving emergency vehicles outside during the day.
