If you ever stop believing in magic, eat some ice cream.

Much more than a scoop of ice cream, Salt & Straw developed a unique approach using ice cream to provide people with a moment of happiness and connection to their surrounding community.

O’Brien worked with Salt & Straw on a series of remodeling projects, including the 2019 renovation of their shop on Portland’s iconic NW 23rd Avenue.  Housed in the Esquire building, the community connections are literally historic with a variety of theaters, coffee shops, and ice cream parlors – or at least they called the backdoor entrance an “ice parlor” during prohibition.

The comprehensive renovation was carefully designed and constructed for Salt & Straw’s special storefront where on any given day, they are scooping at least 36 ever-changing flavors.
