Abbey Road Farm Winery and Tasting Room sits atop a stunning 82-acre site. Abbey Road Farm wine and the Wilkens Family Reserve label are coaxed into existence with minimal intervention, producing a diverse array of small-batch wines on-location with respect to old-world philosophies and a focus on modern techniques. Designed for producing approximately 8,000 cases of wine, and able to barrel 4,800 cases, this winery was designed to be both efficient and extremely flexible.

The former equestrian arena was transformed into a functioning winery and tasting room with all the amenities of a ground-up-designed production facility, but the character of a historic agricultural building. O’Brien’s team was able to maintain the historic building’s structure relatively intact, with the addition of structural infill within the existing trusses.

The outdoor crush space is brand new to the building and this allowed us to build it with more industrial, robust materials than the rest of the building to support the traffic of people and equipment. O’Brien also partnered with Abbey Road on a subsequent barrel room expansion project.

This was a project we were particularly proud to build as Freeland Spirits is one of very few women owned and run distilleries in history. In fact, less than 2% of distilleries are owned by women. Freeland Distillery celebrates women made products and the gifts the PNW has to offer while working to break down barriers and stereotypes in an industry that’s historically dominated by men.

The location is equipped for a full distillery, open to the public for tours. The tasting room has modern fixtures, furniture, and lots of light paired with plants to provide a fantastic ambiance for all its visitors. The covered patio is also cozy all year round with heaters, umbrellas, plants, and barrels.

We partnered with Breakside Brewery to complete their NW Slabtown location. Built inside a retail space with a rooftop deck for outside dining and a high-end bar, the build-out also featured Breakside’s unique ten-barrel brewing system and a full-production kitchen, all within a relatively small footprint.

O’Brien took over from another company and finished the project quickly. We were honored to contribute to the space, which is a standout among Portland’s microbreweries, and we are currently partnering again with Breakside on a couple of their upcoming new buildings.

This unique project involved converting an agricultural building into a new winery. The new property offers 25 acres of plantable land, a gravity-flow facility, state of the art equipment, two temperature controlled barrel rooms, and a tasting room where visitors can do wine tastings and enjoy the 360 degree views of the Dundee Hills. When you walk into the winery, you are welcomed by an open kitchen, lounge, a wood-burning fireplace, and large tables for seated tastings. Much of the furniture including the floorboards and the long tables were milled from trees from the property.
